Painting on location – you ever know what you will see! Yesterday I met with my plein air group for our monthly paint out at a private ranch near Los Alamos, California. It turned out to be a cold morning with very little sunshine and a lot of wind. But even though the weather conditions weren’t the best we had a great time painting the landscape and being entertained by this baby buffalo who had lost its mama. We saw it being carried to the barn, fed with a bottle, and sleeping on the floor with a blanket. Too cute! Below is the scene I decided to paint that inspired me. There was a lot of yellow mustard on the hillside, however, it doesn’t show up in the photo too well. That is why it is so much better to paint on location than from a photo. The colors and values are so much better!
